Carrol Shelby competed in several races, winning the Le Mans race in 1959 and the USAC Championships in 1960. His heart condition prevented him from racing for long, and he retired in 1960.
Carrol Shelby made a lot of money from racing, which allowed him to start his first organisation, the Shelby Scholl of High-Performance Driving, in 1961. Shelby American Inc, a company focused on manufacturing performance cars and related products, was also founded by the racer.
